Categories, purposes, and your rights

OPTAL L.L.C., a Michigan limited liability company, operates OPTAL. This consumer health policy applies to Washington residents and people whose consumer health data is collected in Washington when using OPTAL for personal or household purposes. It describes the categories, purposes, sources, sharing, and rights for identifiable training and nutrition information and related health inferences.

Training and nutrition inputs. Your training goal and experience, selected strong or weak muscle groups, workouts, exercises, sets, repetitions, weight, effort, routines, schedules, custom exercises, food log, saved food definitions and corrections, saved meals and recipes, and nutrition goals and targets. OPTAL collects these entries directly from you to provide the logging, history, routine, nutrition, backup and restore, export, and sharing features you request. Nutrition-estimate inputs include the age, weight, height, equation and activity level you enter. These inputs are processed on your device and are not saved or uploaded. Confirmed calorie and macro targets and dated target changes are stored per account on your device and are not included in cloud sync.

On-device health and label information. With permission, OPTAL processes dietary energy consumed, dietary protein, basal energy burned, active energy burned, and body mass from Apple Health only on your iPhone for workout recap context. These readings are not persisted, uploaded, backed up, or disclosed. A camera image or photo you select is processed temporarily on-device to recognize nutrition-label text; the image is not saved or uploaded. You review the extracted text before saving food fields.

Food-search information. Food searches and barcodes can reveal nutrition-related interests when linked to an account or network identifier. The search or barcode is sent to food-catalog providers only to return the results you request. OPTAL does not maintain a personal search-history feature.

Inferred training information. Estimated one-repetition maximum, stimulus, fatigue, readiness, overload, plateau, imbalance, progress, and recommendations calculated by the app from your entries. OPTAL creates these inferences to provide the training-analysis features you request.

Sources. Consumer health data comes from information you enter in OPTAL, including the food you log and save, nutrition-label text you review and confirm, and calculations OPTAL performs from those entries. Food searches and barcode scans first check your own foods on your device. Keyword searches then go to Open Food Facts and to OPTAL's food catalog, a copy of USDA FoodData Central hosted on Supabase. Barcode scans then check Open Food Facts, followed by OPTAL's food catalog. The food catalog is available only while you are signed in, so those requests carry your account session. These requests do not become entries in your food log, and OPTAL does not maintain a personal search-history feature. Supabase may process account-linked technical request information, such as request timing and network metadata, to operate and secure the catalog. When you are signed out or the food catalog is unavailable, the app asks USDA FoodData Central directly. Requests to Open Food Facts and USDA include the food search or barcode and ordinary network information such as your IP address, but no OPTAL account identifier, food history, or training data. Open Food Facts nutrition data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL); product results link to the source. If you grant permission, OPTAL reads dietary energy consumed, dietary protein, basal energy burned, active energy burned, and body mass from Apple Health through HealthKit. OPTAL uses these values only on your iPhone to render workout recap context. OPTAL does not persist, upload, back up, or disclose the values it reads, and it never writes to Apple Health. You can change or withdraw permission in the iOS Health app. OPTAL does not obtain health data from a medical provider or any other health-data service.

Sharing. OPTAL discloses training inputs, logged food, saved food definitions and corrections, and inferred training information to Supabase, which hosts OPTAL's cloud database and stores the backup copy as OPTAL's service provider, to back up and restore the account records you create, including saved meals and recipes. OPTAL also discloses them to a destination you select when you direct an export or share action. Supabase also processes the food searches and barcodes sent to OPTAL's food catalog, as OPTAL's service provider, only to return results. OPTAL does not share consumer health data with affiliates and does not sell it. Apple, Google, and Cloudflare do not receive workout entries or inferred training information as part of the roles described in this policy.

You may ask OPTAL to confirm whether it is collecting, sharing, or selling your consumer health data; access that data and obtain a list of all third parties and affiliates with whom it was shared or sold, including an active email address or other online contact method; withdraw consent; or delete the data. Email support with “Washington consumer health request” in the subject. You do not need to create a new account, but OPTAL may request information reasonably necessary to authenticate you. Withdrawing consent may prevent OPTAL from providing features that require the affected information.

OPTAL will respond without undue delay and within 45 days after receiving a request. OPTAL may extend that period once by up to 45 additional days when reasonably necessary and will explain the extension during the initial period. Verified deletion requests will be applied to OPTAL's records, and OPTAL will notify applicable processors, contractors, and other third parties as required. Deletion from archived or backup systems may be delayed for up to six months where Washington law permits, and the affected data will not be used during that delay except as permitted by law.

If OPTAL refuses a request, you may appeal by emailing support with “Washington privacy appeal” in the subject. OPTAL will respond to the appeal in writing within 45 days. If the appeal is denied, you may submit a complaint through the Washington Attorney General's consumer complaint process.

OPTAL uses consumer health data only for the purposes disclosed above and as needed to provide features you request. Before collecting, using, or sharing an additional category of consumer health data, or doing so for an additional purpose not disclosed here, OPTAL will first disclose the change and obtain your affirmative consent. Acceptance of general Terms is not a substitute for health-data consent when it is required.
